If you’ve just received your diesel diagnostic laptop, this is your quick-start guide to help you connect and run your first diagnostic session.
✅ Step 1: Connect Your Laptop and Truck

Plug the USB adapter cable into your laptop and your vehicle’s diagnostic port.

Turn your truck’s key to the ON position (ignition on, engine off with all the dash lights lit up).

Open the laptop and locate the correct diagnostic program (see below for engine-specific guidance).

You will see various diagnostic software icons on your desktop. Here's how to choose the right one:
🛠 Universal Use

Diesel Tech or Universal Diag – These are universal programs that work with most heavy-duty engines, transmissions, and brake systems.

For most users, this is the easiest and fastest way to connect.
⚙️ Engine-Specific Programs
Use these programs for more direct OEM-level functions. If multiple options are listed, either can be used unless noted:
