❓ Frequently Asked Questions About Our Diesel Laptop Scanners

At DieselScanners.com, we help owner-operators, fleet managers, and diesel techs get dealer-level diagnostic power—without the dealer price. Below are some of the most common questions we get about our diesel laptop scanner kits.

💻 What is a diesel laptop scanner?

It’s a professional laptop preloaded with diagnostic software paired with a heavy-duty adapter

  • Read and clear engine fault codes

  • Perform DPF regens

  • Change ECM parameters

  • Monitor live data

  • Troubleshoot DEF, EGR, NOx, and turbo systems

  • And tons more! If your dealer can do it then so can you.

🔧 Can I do forced regens with this?

Yes—our full kits support parked and forced regens on most major engines, including:

  • Cummins ISX / X15

  • Detroit DD13 / DD15

  • Paccar MX-13

  • Volvo D13

  • CAT C7 / C9 / C15

  • MaxxForce, International, and more

🚛 What engines are supported?

Our kits work with virtually every heavy-duty diesel brand:

  • Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack, CAT, International, MaxxForce, Hino, Isuzu, and more.

We also offer brand-specific setups if you only need support for one engine line.

🔌 Do I need internet to use it?

No internet is needed for normal use.

💲 What’s included in the full kit?

Each kit includes:

  • A rugged laptop with diagnostic software pre-installed

  • A USB diesel adapter (Nexiq)

  • Cables for 6-pin, 9-pin, and OBD-II

  • Setup instructions + support

🛠 Can I change speed limiters or idle shutdown timers?

Yes. Our kits will allow you to adjust ECM parameters, including:

  • Road speed governor

  • Idle shutdown

  • Cruise control

  • PTO settings

  • Fan and torque management

❌ Can I clear codes without fixing the problem?

You can clear codes, but many will come back if the root issue isn’t fixed (especially SPN 5246, 4364, 3719). The scanner helps you identify what’s wrong so you can repair it correctly and reset the system.

📦 Do you offer support if I get stuck?

Yes! We include email support and how-to tutorials. We also have a growing blog and plan to launch live video walkthroughs for common fixes.
